State school vs independent school

My daughter studies in a primary school. The teachers say it’s an independent school. What does that mean?

An independent school has some flexibility in choosing the curriculum, determining teaching staff and managing its planning and reviewing processes. So generally speaking, independent schools tend to offer more extra-curricular programs.
That said, they still need to follow the Australian national curriculum in determining the key subject areas appropriate to the age of each student.
